Eric Ozario started the event congratulating everyone on Konkani Manyatha Divas and informing everyone that in 1992 Konkani language became a National language and had entered into the Indian constitution. Verina Mascarenhas compered the whole programme in Konkani and surprised all being an excellent Master of Ceremony. The closing ceremony was conducted on August 20 ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ by all children putting up a good programme as a befitting finale to this course. Children enjoyed the overall teaching as the classes were very interactive. Two sessions were exclusively for Baal Ghitam (Children’s songs). During the eight sessions topics covered were numbers, relations, greetings, basic vocabulary, colours, weather, va’rnn maala, directions – sides, time/days/month, parts of the body, pronouns, verbs, sentiments/feelings, house and things around, occupations/professions, dressing, make-up items, nature, domesticated animals, 10 imperatives of Konkani. Eric introduced his team from Mandd Sobhann as Rony Crasta, Victor Mathias and Rahul Pinto who would be assisting him during the sessions and briefed on the course to all.Ĭhildren from age groups of 5 to 14 years participated in the teaching of basic Konkani. He stressed the importance of preserving Konkani language and nurturing culture.
